tree

Media_http1bpblogspot_lgndg

watched tree of life this afternoon.
what i can say is that i am confused.
what i take from it is not necessarily the idea...
but this is how i understand it,

at some point the lady narrator speaks to god,
'who are we, god?
and what are we to you?'

this is at a point in the film, when malrick explores various imagery from all over time and space. graphically and with aid of the music, illustrating how small we are. how minuscule our individual lives are... we are busy with all this stuff that distracts us, making money, watering the garden, stressing about our children, cooking, cleaning. while the universe moves and shakes, and time becomes something irrelevant in the universal game. and we keep on thinking that what we do, and who we are, is important. we justify our daily activities with the strangest motivations, 'people need to eat', 'who will put the clothes on your back'.

i was in awe of that film, each screen shot became an individual art work. the movement of light, and the presence of it in the film, renders the whole movie timeless. even though the movie is set in the 50/60's it feels like a dream landscape.

and i've realized once again what i love about films. a good story with amazing cinematography can transport you to another world. helping you remember things that you've lost. and helping you forget things you want to loose.
