van reenen is a small town sitting on the edge of the freestate and natal.
a beautiful town,
home to:
the smallest church in the world.
the green latern hotel.
and elsa's tourism centre.

if you want more info on the whole thing.

tree

Media_http1bpblogspot_lgndg

watched tree of life this afternoon.
what i can say is that i am confused.
what i take from it is not necessarily the idea...
but this is how i understand it,

at some point the lady narrator speaks to god,
'who are we, god?
and what are we to you?'

this is at a point in the film, when malrick explores various imagery from all over time and space. graphically and with aid of the music, illustrating how small we are. how minuscule our individual lives are... we are busy with all this stuff that distracts us, making money, watering the garden, stressing about our children, cooking, cleaning. while the universe moves and shakes, and time becomes something irrelevant in the universal game. and we keep on thinking that what we do, and who we are, is important. we justify our daily activities with the strangest motivations, 'people need to eat', 'who will put the clothes on your back'.

i was in awe of that film, each screen shot became an individual art work. the movement of light, and the presence of it in the film, renders the whole movie timeless. even though the movie is set in the 50/60's it feels like a dream landscape.

and i've realized once again what i love about films. a good story with amazing cinematography can transport you to another world. helping you remember things that you've lost. and helping you forget things you want to loose.

damm i miss hamm

i miss mad men
and don draper.
the production of season 5 started this week.
with jon hamm directing the first episode.

i am totally blaming mad men for my unrealistic ideals.
having to apply for an internship in a branding/marketing company seems ridiculous.
all i want is don draper as a boss.
i want to work as sterling cooper and not at some silly Johannesburg firm.
also working in the 60's would be quite fly!

mad_men_510.jpg

this was the first snap released from the set.
its so weird seeing these two all laughing and chilling.

super boring post i know.
but oh the obsession.

self-portrait

Albrecht Dürer- 1500.

i rarely like self-portraits.
or renaissance paintings.
but this one seems so intense, something mystical.
especially like his logo. seen on the left side.

a discussion society not a sex club

i want to beat the beat generations drum again.
escape from this world.
howl at the confinements of fucking technology.
the endless ability of people reaching you.
telling you about 'how they are doing'.
i don't fucking care. you fucking hooked up machine.
be on the road. again.
experience a new sexuality.
making love because movies made me do it.
deny the powers of the faux ruling.
we are all consuming all using. all fucking the dollar.
take drugs. deny my virtual existence.
i was convinced that i should sell more shit to people.
build more buildings.
brand more bullshit.
but now i'm coming out of this haze.
this clutter of junkspace.

and i'm angry. and i have no time.
but i'm addicted.
and not sure how to escape...

we are all just beautiful losers there (heaven)

amazing show at steak and ale on friday night (the place is slightly creepy in the tucked away in the dingy corners of the centurion)
artist, laurie levine gave me a brief view into the world of the post break up blues. sad and melancholic, she has the ability to tell the story of a heartbreak,
recalling days of loving memories, and reflecting on their meaning, while still questioning the authority of love. (check me go)

her on stage persona is beautifully complemented with the help of eccentric singer,  joshua grierson, he has a case of the crazy eye, but cant wait to experience his solo work.
dan roberts, director, musician, producer of the album, (who's wife told me that he inspired by the mystery of the south, new orleans in particular), gives laurie's show, a old world flair,
playing the banjo and deep blues guitar (damn my knowledge of the technical music world is so limited).

i wish i had my camera there (but the thing sadly got stolen), to capture the brief moments, of an amazing night.

i'll leave you with a song from laurie's new album, 6 winters.

this recording does not do her much justice,
but here is another song from her previous album
